So, in order to have my grant processed, I have to undergo the most rigorous physical exam ever. Okay, so maybe the marines are more thorough, but still, this thing is ridiculous. Maybe if I were going somewhere where medical services are dodgy, it would make sense for me to get a CHEST X-RAY before I go there, but, seriously, we're talking about Norway here. Their medical services are probably better than ours. And anyway, any illnesses I'll get can probably be remedied with fish oil. "Spis tran på alle dager med "a" i!"

It's a mistake to repeat something enough times that people will remember, and then hold you to it. I've said on numerous occasions that I would only start a blog if I went abroad, as a handy journaling/keeping in touch tool. Many have done this to great success, I think, so I'm only a little embarrassed to join them. My first piece of news doesn't come from across the Atlantic, but from my happy home in Hyde Park. Our next door neighbor rang our bell (loudly) today to tell us she had received some of our mail. I got two letters: a rejection notice from a poetry mag in New York, and a letter informing me that I've received a Fulbright grant to study in Oslo for the 2006-2007 academic year. Take that, poetry magazine. I'm going to come back with about a million awesome poems, and who'll be sorry then, huh? Huh?
