What are you, ravens?

Friday, December 01, 2006

I've been meaning to write this long, detailed post about what it is, exactly, that I'm doing over here. But I thought it might be cooler if I just mentioned that, not to brag or anything, but one thing that I've been doing is reading this:

"Hvat es yðr, hrafnar?
Hvaðan eruð ér komnir
með dreyrgu nefi
at degi öndverðum?
Hold loðir yðr í klóm,
hræs þefr gengr ór munni,
nær hygg ek yðr í nótt bjoggu
því es vissuð nái liggja."

In loose, inexpert translation:
"What are you, ravens?
From whence have you come
with bloody beak
at the break of day?
You grasp flesh in your claws
the stench comes from your mouth
Near I think you stayed in the night
to where dead bodies lay."

Consequently, I've been having lots of horrible dreams about ravens and battlefields and corpses*. Maybe I'm not cut out for this after all.

*Okay, so I haven't literally been having these kinds of dreams, but I do sometimes get a bit of an eerie feeling when I lay down at night after reading about people who've driven swords all the way through other people and into the wood of their bed frames while they're sleeping. Just sometimes.

Flashback

Remember when I got here, and the day was 15 hours long?

Funny things you don't think about

Temp: 8 degrees C
Length of Day: 6 h 3o min

It's okay to put up Christmas trees on public university campuses in Norway.

You can also eat chocolate while you take exams. Unfortunately, they like making their exams four hours long.

I made Thanksgiving dinner for 17 people. (I had help.) Then my cat died.

It's finals time, take it or leave it.
