I am a hopeless packrat. Not in the stacks of newspaper, millions of twisty ties, lots of old coffee cans kind of way, but in a nostalgic kind of way. For some reason, I want to remember what everything looks like. And I always think I'm going to show other people the funny little everyday things I save. But, I never do. So, while I have easy access to a scanner, I thought I'd let you in on a few gems from my personal paper trail.

I picked up this free cookbook at a grocery store, thinking it might have some interesting Norwegian Christmas food recipes. At the time, I didn't notice that the cookbook had been distributed by the Meat Enlightenment Organization. If I had, I wouldn't have been so surprised by this page:

Yes, that is a sheep head. And a pig head. And a cow tongue. Yummy.

This is the program for the infamous contemporary art exhibit that Lisa and I attended before being trapped in a weird room on the top floor during a blackout. Watching this guy's fashion shows was an 80s delight. Apparently, because of his Scandinavian devotion to practical clothing, he was one of the first high fashion designers to put flat shoes with eveningwear. Good for him. (Note the pineapples on her hat.)

Here's what my monthly public transportation pass looks like. (Please don't calculate what this thing actually costs me, it's too painful. Plus, it's a student pass so it's half-price and still painful.) The reason you have to remember to stamp it, as it says on the back, is because Oslo transport works entirely on the honor system. Unless you get caught by a controller, in which case you feel embarrassed and have to pay a huge fine. But the embarrassment is the worst part, at least according to the Oslo transport ad campaigns.

Here's a poster for the Medieval Music Festival. I didn't end up going, but I like the poster.
More later ...
