I'm afraid of the dark without you close to me

Last night, the city of Oslo began celebrating the autumnal equinox. They do this by lighting candles along 8 km of Akerselven, the Aker River, which runs from the hills above the city into downtown. Basically hundreds of people take their dogs and babies and girlfriends and walk down this path, which is lined not only with little lights but with small art exhibits done by local people. A few musical groups and other entertainment acts, including bands and fire throwers and dance groups, and even some crazy dude standing on top of a building with a trombone, also set up along the way. It's really good fun and completely beautiful, and Lisa and I decided we want to celebrate the beginning of autumn like this every year.Lisa and I were very proud of ourselves for managing to stay out after 11pm, although this unfortunately means waiting half an hour for a train. We passed the time by sharing my headphones. I'm beginning to feel that my best romances have been with friends. Most things I've imagined would be lovely with a lover I've done, in the end, with a friend. And I suspect it's been just as nice as it could ever be.
One of my favorite exhibits was this entrance to the "Riverback," where they had placed sprinklers along the bridge so it ran down into the river like a waterfall. I saw a couple smooching up there, which was just about perfect. And here's me with my fellow adventurer on the train. (Grin.)

Here's to the changing of seasons!
