Reminiscing

Thursday, August 03, 2006

Are you allowed to mention your friends by name on your blog? Do you have to ask permission first? Personally, I'm used to writing about people in poems that involve such a metaphorical tangle that few of them would recognize themselves (Although they may have some suspicions, I don't know. They've never brought it up. Awkward!)

Anyway, what I wanted to write today was a little message to my pal Jeremy. Just reading the coverage of the Pitchfork music festival today and thinking about our little journey to the shores of Lake Michigan. Good times, good times. (Minus the heat. And the exhaustion. And the sticky paste the dirt and sunscreen created all over my legs.) I was just remembering you rifling through all those records. And making fun of the hipsters. And discussing our "types." And you offering to pose as my sig-o. Oooh, oooh, and that fat guy with the awesome 2-4-6-8-10 dance! Good times. Given that this summer has mostly been about my being a hermit, as well as my addiction to all those puzzles old people do to stave off Altzheimer's (seriously, I've been solving everything in sight! Jumbles, sudoku, even those Cryptoquotes with the stupid sayings from people I've never heard of!), I'm glad I took a little time out one year ago to act my age. Mostly I discovered that people my age are out of their f-ing minds, but, it was still nice to experience it for myself. So, cheers, Jerems! Safe journey back to the US of A!

PS In other news, the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten reported today that eating hotdogs increases your risk of stomach cancer. Is anyone genuinely surprised by this?

i had many of those same reminisces myself when i read about the pitchfork festival! all of what you said, and andrew bird. remember when we saw him offstage, and we were shocked or delighted (or both) at his skinniness? man. that was fun. and hot. and exhausting. but mostly fun. and you and i, we had some good conversations on the way, too, didn't we? yes, we did.
