Rainy Day Update

Sunday, August 13, 2006

More cancelled flights today. Looks like I won't make it out until Tuesday. I had planned to explore more than I did today, but the lightning and my failure to pack an umbrella deterred me. That and the time I spent on the phone with my airline. Here's a second opportunity to try to post some pictures.

Here's where I slept on the couch on Monday:

And here we are at dinner:

(Don't you love blurry pictures? I owe all people who actually know how to take a picture my sincere apologies. )

Look how blissfully naive I look. If only I knew.

Here's the first hotel I stayed in. I was not a fan. Too fancy.

Here's the view from the hotel I'm now. I love trains. I used to live by the train tracks in Chicago, and I loved watching the commuters leave the station in the evenings and walk to their cars. We always knew a freight train was going by because it shook the apartment.

Here's the street in front of the hotel. The little market I've been buying all my food from always plays the perfect song, I don't know how. Yesterday they were playing Oasis (in case you forgot you're in England!), and today they were playing "Allison" by Elvis Costello.

And here I am, safe and sound and fiddling with my new webcam:

Tomorrow: Sight-seeing for real! I promise!
